This is post 8 of 10 in my Newborn Blog Series—a guide created to help families feel confident and relaxed as they plan their in-home newborn session. As a Salt Lake newborn photographer, I believe your home holds the most meaningful backdrop for telling your family’s story.

Your home is more than a space. It’s where your memories are made. That’s why in-home newborn photography sessions are so special. Choosing the best spots in your home can elevate the experience. You’ll end up with timeless images that feel honest, beautiful, and deeply personal.

The Nursery: A Sentimental Favorite

Families often choose the nursery first—and for good reason. You rock your baby there in the early morning light. You fold laundry with tired eyes and watch their chest rise and fall in sleep. Even when the room isn’t perfectly styled, it still tells a part of your story.

I often photograph parents cradling their newborn in the rocking chair. I also capture wide shots with baby resting peacefully in the crib.

The Master Bedroom: Calm, Intimate, and Comfortable

The master bedroom offers a cozy, personal space to capture family connection. The bed becomes a soft place to snuggle, play with siblings, or sit quietly with your baby.

Most of the time, the light in bedrooms is soft and dreamy—perfect for that peaceful, connected feel. Some of my favorite Salt Lake in-home newborn photos come from these quiet moments on the bed. They show so much emotion and tenderness.

The Living Room or Family Room: Real Life, Documented

These rooms hold so much personality. They show the details that make your everyday life special. Maybe it’s a couch filled with throw pillows, a toy basket nearby, or sunlight spilling in through the windows.

Your living room offers the perfect setting for lifestyle-driven photos—siblings giggling, spontaneous cuddles, or quiet moments between you and baby.

Kitchens and Hallways: Yes, Really!

Don’t count out the unexpected spots. I’ve captured some of the most heartfelt images in kitchens. Parents often sway near the island or hold baby close by the window.

Hallways work beautifully too—especially when the natural light hits just right. These spaces give us a chance to create peaceful, artistic portraits.

You Don’t Have to Decide Alone

Not sure where to start? Don’t worry—I’ll help you. When I arrive, we’ll walk through your home together. I’ll help choose the best spots with great light and strong emotional value.

You don’t need a picture-perfect house. What matters is that it feels like your family and your life.

There’s no pressure to have a perfectly styled home. What matters most is that it feels like you.
