This post is part 5 of my Newborn Blog Series: 10 helpful posts designed to guide new parents through the early weeks of life with a baby. Each post shares practical insights, thoughtful tips, and a little heart from my own experience as both a mom and a newborn photographer.

As a Salt Lake newborn photographer based in South Jordan, Utah, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside hundreds of new families during those raw, beautiful, and often overwhelming early days. Becoming a parent changes everything—and while nothing can fully prepare you for the newborn season, the right tools can make a big difference. Some of these products were my personal go-to’s. Others? I came across later and really wish I had them back then.

This list is a mix of both: the baby items I used and loved, and a few gems I would’ve snatched up in a heartbeat had I known about them sooner.
