Utah Lifestyle Family Photographer | Hōm Photography
If you’ve ever wondered what a “This Is Us” in-home session actually feels like, this Daybreak, South Jordan family is a great example. They invited me in to photograph real life: busy, noisy, playful, and very much in motion—in the best way.
No big production. No perfect poses. Just their family being themselves at home.
A Daybreak Home Full of Personality and Play
From the moment I walked in, their Daybreak home felt full of energy. The kids were already playing together—running, chasing, laughing, and switching from one activity to the next like kids do.
Maisy, their imaginative eight-year-old, set the tone. She builds Lego worlds, dances, gets lost in audiobooks, and lives half in stories and half in real life. Rockwell, age five, brought all the movement—running, climbing, racing cars, and going all-in on anything with wheels. He’s bold and active, but also surprisingly sweet and thoughtful.
It was the kind of energy that makes lifestyle photography really fun: nothing forced, everything unfolding naturally.

Snuggles, Books, and Slower Moments
Next, we headed into the primary bedroom and everyone piled on the bed to read together. It’s part of their normal rhythm, and it showed—no one was trying to perform, they just settled in and read.
After that, Mom curled up with the kids in the nursery chair. The rocking, the closeness, the way they fit just right in her arms—it was simple and honest. Then we moved to their daughter’s room, where Dad snuggled up with the kids on her bed. Those quieter pockets of connection balanced out the higher-energy parts of the morning and rounded out the story of their day.

Favorite Games and Little Details
To wrap up, the kids pulled out Sleeping Queens, one of their go-to games. Including things like favorite games, books, or toys is one of my favorite parts of a “This Is Us” session—it gives context to the photos and instantly roots them in this specific stage of life.
Throughout the session, I made time to focus on each child individually, with the things they’re most into right now. Those interests change quickly, so it’s always worth documenting them while they’re still a big part of daily life.
Why In-Home Sessions in Daybreak Work So Well
Daybreak homes tend to have great natural light and cozy, functional layouts—perfect for in-home family photography. Kids are comfortable, parents can relax, and sessions feel more like a normal morning than a big event.
This Daybreak session is a perfect example: nothing stiff or over-planned, just a real family in their own space, doing what they already love to do together.
